EANS2021 Virtual Congress – October 3 – 7, 2021

The European Association of Neurosurgical Societies had the pleasure of welcoming more than 1000 participants from 72 Countries at its EANS2021 Virtual Congress which took place from 3 to 7 October 2021. The Congress enjoyed 14 sponsors and supporters, 128 invited lectures, 219 oral presentations and 419 oral flashes – e-posters! Our Past and current Presidents Karl Schaller and Andreas Demetriades, the Congress President Manfred Westphal along with some Section Chairs addressed the audience live from Hamburg inviting everyone to join and learn about the latest developments in neurosurgery.

The Congress programme was rich in history, intriguing facts and achievements, joint sessions with partner societies from all over the world, amazing plenary sessions and masterclasses, distinguished lectures and awards and a broad spectrum of high-class presentations.

This year’s AGM was full of emotions and positive thoughts. The global crisis for the last couple of years was not able to stop the EANS from overcoming the obstacles.

The association has succeeded in making the best out of it; the acclaimed EANS Academy, webinars, podcasts, highly successful virtual meetings, features and functions created for the very first time. All European journals and European neurosurgical centers are now listed within the website of the EANS, making now its website a very useful tool and reference point for all neurosurgeons. The backbone of the society was refurbished: bylaws and the constitution. And the long-awaited bright new journal, a joint effort between the EANS and EUROSPINE became a reality. Now we are happy to accept submissions for the Brain & Spine Journal.

The EANS is celebrating 50 years of history, collaboration and solidarity amongst the neurosurgeons in Europe and all over the world.

The Association has accomplished a lot, faced many challenges, and today it is stronger than ever!
