Editors’ Cover Letter

Dear Colleagues –

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to disrupt neurosurgical diagnosis and treatment - and precludes in-person courses and conferences.

The first item in this Newsletter is WFNS President Franco Servadei’s message regarding the XVII WFNS World Congress that was scheduled for August 2021 in Bogotá, Colombia. The World Congress has been postponed until March 2022. The WFNS Administrative Council has decided to hold elections in late August, as previously planned, with a web-based voting platform.

The second item is from the XVII WFNS World Congress President Enrique Osorio, announcing the dates of the Congress as 13 to 18 March 2022 in Bogotá, Colombia. Mark your calendar! The third item is an invitation to participate in the WFNS Young Neurosurgeons Survey: Journal Access. Please take a few minutes to provide your input!

The fourth item is an invitation to participate in the Queen Square Neurosurgery Review Course, 7 to 11 June 2021, at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London, UK. Please note the May 1 deadlines!

The remaining items are the WFNS ad hoc Committee reports that were not presented in the February Newsletter. The hope is that neurosurgeons worldwide will take these reports as an inspiration to become involved in the activities of the WFNS. Success as a neurosurgeon – wherever you are worldwide – will benefit from your participation in the worldwide neurosurgical community.

Although the COVID-19 pandemic has been absorbing most of the “oxygen” for all of us – we must not forget the other major crises on the world stage at present. The world will benefit from our thoughtful and innovative actions, not only as surgeons, but also as citizens.
